Fashion Resistance to Militarism in Massachusetts
On Friday, May 6th WAND celebrated Mother's Day for Peace with an exciting new event, Fashion Resistance to Militarism! Fashion Resistance to Militarism is a runway expose' of how militarism has seeped into our homes, our communities and our minds. This unique fashion show features eye-popping, one-of-a-kind designs that challenge some pervasive assumptions about war. The show reveals the high costs of militarism in terms of our lives, our emotional well being, environmental contamination, and war profiteering. "Fashion Resistance..." uncovers all the ways in which militarism pervades our society and war-making is made to seem normal.
The models for this year's Massachusetts' event were local students from Arlington High School. Guests in attendance included former WAND Board President and Board members, members of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF),Peace Action MA, and Corporate Accountability International, among many others.
