WAND Plan of Action:

II. COMMUICATE WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS

  • Write or call your senators and congressional representatives to encourage leadership and action consistent with WAND's "Five R's." Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121; The Honorable ________, United States Senate, Washington, DC 20510; The Honorable _________, House of Representatives, Washington, DC 20515. Specific contact information: www.visi.com/juan/congress/.

  • Visit WAND's website for information and action opportunities on current Capitol Hill issues and legislation. www.wand.org/9-11/congress.html.

  • Sign up for WAND email action alerts to receive breaking news from Capitol Hill. Contact wand@wand.org to sign up.

  • Donate to WAND PAC. Women endorsed and supported by WAND PAC in the 106th Congress voted progressively on issues of peace, the environment, children, women, and handgun control 90 percent of the time. Send donations to WAND PAC, 691 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA 02476. Or get more information here.

  • Contact Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to learn about and support his legislation to create a Department of Peace. www.house.gov/kucinich/action/peace.htm

  • Contact Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) to express support for her lone vote on September 14th opposing "Authorization for Use of Military Force," S. J. Res. 23. Rep. Barbara Lee, 426 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515, barbara.lee@mail.house.gov. Also see Rep. Lee's statement on her vote.

  • Make an appointment with your state legislator, especially WiLL members, about federal budget cuts in domestic spending resulting from increases in military spending, and how state budgets will be affected. Find out what your legislature is doing to deal with these cuts. Educate your state legislator about exorbitantly expensive weapons systems such as the F-22 fighter jet and the V-22 Osprey, which will not protect us. Ask them to contact your member of Congress about funding priorities. More info: www.wand.org or WAND's DC office, (202) 544-5055.

  • Find out what your state legislature is doing about safety for nuclear power plants, and preparation/response to biological or chemical attack.
