WAND and More Than Warmth
June
2006
Honored
by the Women of Color network and More than Warmth
(MTW), two WAND quilts have been exhibited at the
National Underground Railroad Museum, in Cincinnati,
Ohio (March to June 2006). Quilts were made September
11th, 2002 at the Atlanta WAND meetings as Judith
Biondo Meeker asked members, and local schools to
open their hearts to Iraq, our "new" enemy.

More than Warmth began out of Meeker's classroom in
2001, while 4th graders opened their hearts to Afghanistan.
Thousands die in Afghanistan each year, freezing,
with 23 years of violence and terrorism. While bombs
shook Kabul, MTW quilts were exhibited at Kabul University
within six weeks of children making/drawing nonviolent,
nonpolitical, nonreligious pictures: rainbows, hearts,
flowers and even puppies, happy pictures to bring
comfort to those in need.

After Meeker's visit to Atlanta, hosted by WAND member
Sky Willow Campbell, Meeker made quilts on September
11, 2002, at Arbor Montessori, Paidea School and Cook
Elementary. Many quilts have been shipped to Iraq
from those schools, and continue to be given to children
coming to the United States for surgeries with nomorevictims(.org).
The Atlanta quilts will be given to a victims of war
from Iraq, after the exhibit. The third Atlanta quilt
is on its way to Afghanistan to a girls school with
Wahid Omar and Afghans4tomorrow(.com)
This month, More than Warmth has included, Katrina
victims, Vietnam, and victims of genocide, Sudan,
Chad, and Native Americans, with thirty-third countries
having received quilts from war, poverty and violence.
Thousands of students a year participate in the More
than Warmth project around the country, while learning
awareness of those suffering around the world from
wars, slavery, poverty, while doing something to help
and make a difference. Students draw, use map skills
and write letters.
