Capital Area WAND meets and plans!
June 2006

On June 28, 2006 we had a conference call meeting. Here is what was discussed.

1. Common Sense Budget Act – WAND Lobbyist, Marie Reitman briefed us on this. Diane Jones will be working as WAND’s organizer. In the house the bill is HR 4898. Please go to http://www.sensiblepriorities.org/ and click on Common Sense Budget Act in the left column for the bill and to take action. Anyone in Congressman Cummings’s district? His number is 202-225-4741 and he needs to be urged to support CSBA.

2. WAND opposes the President’s nuclear deal with India. India did not sign on to the NPT. Another action alert is being prepared to give us information on lobbying for a fissile materials amendment requiring that India stop production of highly enriched uranium and plutonium – fissile materials used in the production of nuclear weapons.

3. In late-April many of you were mailed a listing of ngo’s to update. We need these back in the fall with possible groups to contact about partnering with us for our Mothers Day event.

4. If you plan to join us for the INDIGO GIRLS, July 19, please purchase your ticket and let me know so I can send you your (FREE) t-shirt. See you there!

Thanks to all who participated in the call! The next call will be near the end of July and will feature another speaker.
