WAND Chapters: Hunt for WMD goes on in N. Indiana

List of chapters        Chapter activities     How to start a chapter

(Pictures below)

This past July, Atlanta WAND set out to find the weapons of mass destruction proving so elusive to the Bush administration. These keen WAND sleuths found what they were looking for just down the road along the Georgia - South Carolina border at the Savannah River Nuclear Weapons Site. Inspired by their southern sisters, WAND women in Indiana have donned hazmat suits of their own to take up the hunt. Thanks to Doloris Cogan for this exciting report. (Edited for space. For full report: membership@wand.org)

Just a line to say I think our demonstration yesterday when Cheney was here met all our expectations. We had our 30-seconds of exposure on all three commercial TV networks. . .

The Elkhart Truth wrote, "A march and rally organized by the Notre Dame Peace & Justice Coalition included a number of people dressed as weapons inspectors claiming they were looking for weapons of mass destruction. "I want to know where they are," said Julia King, a Goshen resident and member of Women's action for New Directions of Northern Indiana. "That's no small thing to say we're going to war for a reason that doesn't exist. At best, they misunderstood the situation. At worst, they lied about it."

The South Bend Tribune (included) . . . a picture with our yellow-suited WAND members . . . "Some protesters were dressed in bright yellow suits of the type worn by hazardous chemical inspectors.. . . "These suits are to protect us as we launch our campaign to find weapons of mass destruction," Karen Jacob said wryly. Jacob, of Bristol, is chapter president of Women's Action for New Directions of Northern Indiana. "WAND is pushing for an independent investigation into whether the Bush administration misled the public in order to go to war in Iraq... WAND - Atlanta and Boston . . .I wanted to give you an assessment of our little demonstration that would never have taken place had it not been for you. I hope it will somehow encourage others to take up the Hunt. . . . We think a national hunt, going state by state before meeting in Washington, would be a great way to wake America up to what we are spending on the military -- especially nuclear weapons.

Keep on keeping on! -- Doloris
