Oregon
WAND Peace Train 2007
From the intrepid Susan Cundiff:
Oregon WAND hopped on the Peace Train in the Eugene
Celebration Parade on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The train won the Judges Know Best award.

Many
local peace and justice groups have cars in the train
(Middle East Peace Group, Department of Peace, Million
Mom March and the Democratic Peace Caucus, to name
a few).

WAND's entry depicts a circus car with the message:
FREE ALL BEINGS FROM NUCLEAR THREAT! Our
giraffe is 5’6” from base to eye lashes
and she carries the message, Stretch for a Nuclear
Free World. |

And the zebra sports my mother-in-law’s
dentures and insists, Read My Lips – No
New Nukes! |

The four lines in the upper right corner (education,
housing for homeless, Food & health care)
were contributed by a soldier who told me he is
returning to Iraq for his second tour of duty.
The Spanish written in the middle wishes for liberty
for immigrants to live in dignity. In the lower
left corner is the wish of Eugene's mayor and
former WAND board member, Kitty Piercy. She'd
rather pay for 'our children, our elderly, our
sick, our poor- the kind of life we all want for
everyone!" |

The elephant rode in the front of the car and
she Trumpets Toxic Waste Clean Up. She now rests
on my living room couch. (How’s that for
the proverbial elephant in the living room just
like all those toxic wastes we never want to think
about!?!) |
