Our
Mission
October
2006
Extensive
market research shows that a substantial majority
of Americans across the political spectrum --
Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike
-- want the federal budget changed to reflect
their values. This means away from Cold War-era
weapons and toward underfunded human needs programs
that make us all safer, healthier, and stronger
as a country.
The Common Sense Budget Act
of 2006 (CSBA) would -- at no cost to the taxpayer
-- fund essential programs for children’s
health care, K-12 education, job training, easing
world hunger, energy independence and deficit
reduction. It would reallocate $60 billion per
year from obsolete Cold War weapons systems,
and invest in vital programs. That $60 billion
would be enough to dramatically enhance America’s
communities and save the lives of millions of
children across the planet.
The
campaign harnesses the respected voices of business,
military, religious and political leaders; creative
marketing; professional public relations; and
grassroots advocacy to show citizens how their
federal tax dollars are spent and to give them
the tools to demand sensible spending priorities.
CSBA is a project of Business Leaders for Sensible
Priorities (BLSP), TrueMajority, and Women's
Action for New Directions.
