Steps every voter needs to take before Election Day.

Prepare for Election Day

ELECTION DAY for the General Election is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2008.

Know your polling location.

Plan for transportation.

If you need transportation or to organize a carpool:

Schedule time to vote.

Contact your local Election Official for the laws regarding employer obligations and check with your employer for voting policies; or visit the Federal Election Commission: click here.

Be ready with identification and proof of registration, if required.

Contact your local Election Official or state web site regarding identification requirements and consider bringing it just in case. Ask your local Election Official about bringing proof of registration if you wish to have extra assurance in case of an error.

Election Protection is the nation’s most ambitious nonpartisan program for preventing Election Day disenfranchisement. We provide same-day legal support to voters who experience problems on Election Day to ensure that our nation's democratic voice speaks clearly and inclusively.

Absentee or early voting

Make sure that you submit your absentee ballot on time if you are unable to vote in person at your polling location on Election Day.

Arrange for assistance of any kind

Whether you need physical assistance or help using voting equipment, poll workers are required to provide it.
