Celebrating
Women's Seat at the Table of Power
WAND/WiLL Capitol Hill Reception
April 27, 2004
The
extended family of former WAND President Arlene Victor
joined over a hundred legislators, activists, WAND/WiLL
members, and dear friends in an elegant room in the
Capitol on Tuesday night to celebrate her life and
accomplishments. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow passed
on to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi the gold
chair pin that Arlene had given her when she was first
elected to the Senate.

A
note from our own Bobbie Wrenn Banks sums it up:
Last
night's WAND celebration of Arlene's life and work
was magnificent. We were in the LBJ Room of the Capitol,
surrounded by Arlene's family and friends, including
Michigan Senator Stabenow and other members of Congress.
It was great to have Michigan WAND represented by
Fern Katz, Lorraine Lerner, and Marilyn Schechter.
Natalie Goldring was there too. Arlene's daughter
Jackie Victor made a great, inspiring speech and we
all know how proud and thrilled Arlene would have
been.

Arlene
had envisioned a sea of chair pins when the Congress
was filled with women leaders. Here, U.S. Sen. Stabenow
gets ready to pin one on House Democratic Leader Nancy
Pelosi.

Arlene's
daughter Jackie Victor gave a new pin to Sen. Stabenow
during the ceremony; the original was lost in a tragic
house fire last year.

Honorary
WiLL co-chair Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky welcomed
the guests to the Capitol.

Congressman
Ed Markey stopped by to make some remarks.

WiLL
President Nan Grogan Orrock and Oregon WAND's Janice
Zagorin share a moment with Sen. Stabenow.

WAND
Executive Director Susan Shaer moderated the evening's
events.
