plenty of opportunities coming up! |
We encourage you to meet with your Senators

Information
about scheduling a meeting with Members of Congress
Of
course, WAND Policy staff will be working with Congress
right here on Capitol Hill too. Together we will
create a new synergy for progress on our key issues.
The
next opportunities to meet with Congress at home
are:
• Summer Recess - Friday, August 6
– Monday, September 13
• You may be able to meet with your Senators/Representative
over a weekend too – many come back to their
home states and districts frequently.
We urge you to make an appointment with your
Senators and Representative NOW, then…
Another way you can get involved is to write a Letter to the Editor or an Op Ed
Nuclear Disarmament Progress
Last year the President made a commitment
to “set a goal of a world without nuclear
weapons, and pursue it.” Recently the
U.S. and Russia signed the New Strategic Arms
Reduction Treaty. Now the U.S. Senate must
ratify the treaty- 67 votes are required.
For more background on nuclear disarmament
opportunities see: Can We Clear
the Nuclear Shadow?
Reprioritizing
the Federal Budget
The Administration has presented its budget
request for Fiscal Year 2011 (FY 11)- see
the Federal
Budget Pie. As Congress considers appropriating
funds, we must ask for a security strategy
that keeps us safer and costs less. Congress
should act to reduce excessive Pentagon spending
to help meet human, environment and real security
needs. Additionally, Congress should recognize
that federal dollars invested in creating
jobs in non-military sectors has a better
return on investment than spending on defense
sector jobs. |
We hope you will join with us! Organize a meeting with your Senators and Representative while
they are at home. We’ll provide you with plenty
of help to do this! For more information, contact
Kathy Robinson,
WAND Public Policy Field Director, and stay tuned
for more information on WAND’s website.
