Some actions to take to promote peace
[spring 2003]

1. KEEP AN EYE ON WWW.WAND.ORG!
If you're not already a member, please support us in the work we're doing to promote peace! Join on our website. We can't do the work we do in the field and on Capitol Hill without you! We'll be updating our website regularly to keep you informed about the best actions to take to promote peace.

2. Rep. RUSH HOLT LETTER TO PRESIDENT BUSH
Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) has written a letter to President Bush asking for his commitment to REFRAIN FROM THE USE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS in the war on Iraq. Call your member of Congress and urge him or her to sign on to this hugely important letter! For contact info: www.house.gov.

3. ATTEND OR ORGANIZE A "DAY AFTER" VIGIL.
Check out www.unitedforpeace.org to see what's been organized in your area. If you organize on your own, please be sure to post your plans on the UFPJ website. It is crucial that everyone know that options for assembly are available once war begins.

4. PLACE A LIGHT IN YOUR WINDOW FOR PEACE.
Win Without War is asking everyone to continue to show the spirit of peace by placing a light or candle in your window. Keep hope alive. Check out the WWW website at www.winwithoutwarus.org.

5. ORGANIZE FOR 2004! Work in your community to support progressive congressional and presidential candidates. Ask tough questions of the candidates. It's never too early to organize!

6. GET YOUR NEWS FROM ALTERNATIVE NEWS SOURCES. Check out antiwar.com, commondreams.org, alternet.org, salon.com, wand.org, fcnl.org, indymedia.org, globalexchange.org and many, many others. Now is not the time to rely on corporate-owned media to get the real news. And, while you're at it, contact ABC, NBC, CNN, FOX, and CBS to demand REAL coverage of the war, not just the Pentagon-approved versions. Check out Contact info is listed below:

7. ORGANIZE LETTER WRITING GROUPS IN YOUR AREA.
WAND calls these the Circle of Scribes. Three to five people rotating to produce a letter-to-the-editor per day could ensure that alternative views on war be seen consistently in newspapers across the country. And, when letters are published, lawmakers see them as well. Consider organizing a Circle in your chapter or in your community. Collect letters as they're published, and please fax them to WAND at 404 524 7593!!! (Be sure to include name of publication and date it was published.)

8. WEAR A BLACK AND YELLOW ARM BAND.
Students across the country are wearing black arm bands to denote mourning. Add a yellow stripe to indicate your concern that American troops arrive home safely, while still showing that you mourn ALL loss of life in this war.

9. WEAR A BLUE RIBBON FOR PEACE.
Check out WAND's website for details. Wear a light blue ribbon for the UN and for peace.
