Women’s Action for New Directions 2007 Legislative Agenda
Adopted at February 2-4, 2007 meeting of WAND, Inc. board of directors

This represents the WAND legislative agenda for 2007. The alpha categories represent the priorities of WAND. The individual items are in no particular nor prescriptive order.

Category A

Most active. WAND takes a lead, lending resources, actively lobbying, leading coalitions, assembling, preparing, and editing materials for distribution.

  • Support alternatives to war as a means of resolving differences
  • Reduce excessive military spending in order to achieve more balanced spending priorities
  • Advance programs to prevent nuclear terrorism
  • Prevent new nuclear weapons , including the Department’s proposed Complex 2030
  • Get US troops out of Iraq and limit U.S. military combat funding

Category B

Active involvement. WAND assumes an "instrumental" rather than a "leadership" role.

  • Engage in dialog with Iran rather than taking military action
  • Reduce funding for missile defense
  • Prevent space weapons
  • Prevent reprocessing of nuclear waste

Category C

Supportive to marginal involvement. WAND would be available to sign on to letters, lend our support occasionally, and/or join with organizational partners.

  • Support efforts to store nuclear waste in the least dangerous manner
  • Prevent Divine Strake high-explosive test
