Chapters Rock On Against Star Wars
By Bobbie Wrenn Banks

Take failed flight tests, reaction from the global community ranging from skepticism to outrage, a raid on tax dollars to the tune of $60 billion, and a shaky raison d’ętre, and what do you have? A recipe for disaster known as National Missile Defense, a.k.a. “Star Wars.” That is the bad news.

The hopeful news is that WAND chapters are on this boondoggle like white on rice! We are not about to let it happen. WAND chapters are making Star Wars a hot-button issue in this election season through community forums, meetings with members of Congress, and letters to the editor.

Congratulations to all our WAND chapters for your good work! You are making a difference in your communities, and together we will create change. For infor-mation about WAND chapters in your area, call or email the WAND National Field office at (404) 524-5999 or membership@wand.org

On behalf of Women’s Action for New Directions, I urge you, as representatives of the City of Los Angeles, to pass a resolution asking members of Congress to vote against Star Wars and other questionable Pentagon programs, and work to bring those resources back to local communities."

At an event sponsored by Metro-Detroit WAND in Southfield, MI in August, Dr. Theodore Postol of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology spoke about the faulty test results of the Pentagon’s National Missile Defense System (Star Wars).
