Jane Frederick—South Carolina

Jane Frederick challenges 35 years of incumbency in the form of Congressman Floyd Spence in South Carolina’s Second Congressional District. Spence, the Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, has not been putting his time to good use; his voting record is a mere 10% on issues of concern to WAND. Frederick, in contrast, promises to cut corporate welfare to the military industrial complex and eliminate unnecessary hardware from the Pentagon budget. Spence allowed the Second District to become a nuclear dumping ground, but Frederick has pledged to ensure a healthier, safer environment for her district and the entire country.
State Rep. Eleanor Jordan—Kentucky

State Rep. Eleanor Jordan faces incumbent Rep. Anne Northup for the Third Congressional District of Kentucky. Possessing a 21% voting record on WAND issues, Northup even voted against a bill diverting funding from the B-2 bomber to breast cancer research. Jordan, however, will cut the Pentagon budget, particularly research on the nuclear missile defense (“Star Wars”) system, and redirect funds toward human and environmental needs. Preferring to direct money toward reducing gun violence, Jordan is against NATO expansion and the School of the Americas. Jordan will put people’s needs over the Pentagon’s wants.

Congresswoman Debbie Stabenow—Michigan

Congresswoman Debbie Stabenow battles incumbent Sen. Spence Abrahams in Michigan for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Abrahams has consistently voted to support the NRA and to limit women’s reproductive freedom. Stabenow, however, supports WAND’s position on a whopping 91% of the issues. She favors cutting the Pentagon’s inflated budget by reducing funding for the B-2 Bomber, Star Wars, the F-22 Fighter program, and US troop incursions in Europe. Moreover, Stabenow has fought the “temporary” housing of nuclear waste on the shores of the Great Lakes. To Stabenow, “real national security means that our air is clean and our drinking water is pure.”
