Barbara
McKeand-Stevenson is a native Detroiter
and is a graduate of Western Michigan
University and received her Masters
degree from Wayne State University.
Her career has included social work,
community education, training design
and direction, and over 20 years of
professional fundraising and program
and organizational development experience.
Active
as a volunteer, Barbara has served on
numerous Boards including Ronald McDonald
House, VSA Arts, Detroit Women's Forum,
Michigan Women's Campaign Fund, First
Unitarian Universalist Church of Detroit,
the Heartland UU District, Non-Profit
Management Association and NSFRE (now
AFP).
An innovative leader and activist, Barbara
was instrumental in the start-up Detroit
Meals on Wheels, Corktown Recycles,
the Non-Profit Forum (part of Accounting
Aid Society), the Marble Dinner Michigan
Women's Campaign Fund - an event raising
funds for women running for office,
as well as Summer Peace Day Camp. Over
the last 3 years, she has been the catalyst
for organizing the Detroit Federal Development
Credit Union.
Barbara
has taught classes in fundraising, board
development, women's history and volunteer
recruitment. She volunteers as a Great
Books leader, a book group leader and
with peace camp programs. She is also
involved in local political campaigns;
Barbara has received numerous honors
for her volunteer leadership.
Barbara's
pastimes include being a film buff,
a book woman - in two book groups -
and an armchair environmentalist. She
is married to Carter Stevenson and has
two daughters, Alexandria and Megan.
Barbara
currently works with Communities in
Schools of Detroit in Fund development.
