Women. Power. Peace.

Event: Reception with David Cortright

On October 3rd in Cambridge, MA, WAND hosted Dr. David Cortright, director of Policy Studies at the Kroc Institute University of Notre Dame, as he presented findings from his report “Afghan Women Speak.” David provoked thoughtful dialogue about what true security would mean to the women of Afghanistan. The evening closed with a comprehensive overview of WAND’s Women, Peace, and Security Initiative from WAND Public Policy Director Tanya Henderson.

As part of a broader initiative, WAND has partnered with EastWest Institute (EWI) to build a coalition of global women political leaders committed to advancing peace through dialogue by linking our network of women state legislators with women Parliamentarians from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Just last month, WAND staff members organized events with EWI in D.C. and N.Y. to introduce and begin this groundbreaking work.

WAND announced a goal of raising $30,000 to help fund this effort at the Cambridge event, and we’re already half way there. Please consider making a donation to help us reach our goal. The Afghanistan war is ending and now the real work begins!
