Strong on Defense, a webinar with Larry Korb
The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, “the Supercommittee” was created by the Budget Control Act of 2011. While most citizens agree our nation’s debt is a serious problem, there’s disagreement on what should be cut. Why do we need to talk about military spending?
- In real dollars the defense budget is higher than at any time since WWII
- The defense baseline budget has gone up for 13 straight years
- We are spending 40% more on defense than we were in 2000
Should military spending be on the table? Would our country be safe against threats with cuts to the military budget? What about our troops – would military cuts affect “boots on the ground?" Are there areas of the military budget that can be trimmed without adversely affecting our national security?
Dr. Larry Korb presented on this topic on November 2, 2011.
