SMART stands for Sensible, Multilateral American Response to Terrorism. It states that we should take a whole new approach to the "war on terror" -- intelligent and cooperative rather than rash and militaristic.

"The U.S. has now pushed over a nuclear domino that falls against 187 other nations – all signers of the NPT – to review why they should honor a document which the nuclear superpowers no longer respect."

Remembering Maya Miller, activist for peace
Maya Miller, philanthropist and champion for women, peace and the environment, died on May 31, 2006 at her ranch in Nevada. She was 90 years old. Her life epitomizes WAND's mission to empower women to act politically. She understood that change will come when women take the lead.

WAND welcomes delay of Modern Pit Facility, 1/29/04 - The National Nuclear Security Administration announced that it would delay the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Modern Pit Facility -- a proposed $4 billion plant where new pits for nuclear weapons would be fabricated -- in light of Congressional concerns about its scope and timing. A pit, made of plutonium, triggers a nuclear explosion in all modern thermonuclear weapons.
