TAKE
ACTION ON WAR AGAINST IRAQ

Oppose
War Plans for Using Nuclear Weapons Against Iraq
Now that the United States has launched a preemptive
invasion of Iraq, there is a risk that American forces
will use tactical nuclear weapons for the first time
in human history. In May of 2002, the Bush Administration
officially revised American foreign policy to provide
for the preemptive use of our military forces against
countries with weapons of mass destruction. In addition,
the new policy allowed for the use of our own weapons
of mass destruction - even if the country we are attacking
does not use its weapons of mass destruction against
us.
Many Members of Congress oppose this dramatic shift
in policy. U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-D) is sending a
letter to the President concerning the Administration's
nuclear weapons use policy.
What
can WiLL members do? [archived; for reference
purposes only]
First - Call your member of Congress today, and ask
him/her to sign on to U.S. Rep. Holt's letter, to
let the President know that use of tactical nuclear
weapons is unacceptable in this and any other battleground.
The House switchboard number is (202) 225-3121.
Second - Use the enclosed model letter-to-the-editor
to place a letter or op-ed in your state newspapers.
(Background information is provided.) Encourage other
WiLL members in your state to join you in authoring
the letter or op-ed piece. As soon as it is printed
in your newspapers, be sure to fax a copy to your
congressional delegation and to WiLL's Washington
Office (202-544-7612).
Third - Please let us know that you have taken these
actions by returning the enclosed Action Response
Form.
