WAND strongly opposes legislation reducing transparency into the Department of Defense’s spending

WAND strongly opposes the Pentagon’s proposal to eliminate the longstanding requirement of the Department of Defense to submit an unclassified version of the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP). This annual report illustrates the Pentagon’s planned expenditures for the upcoming five years and ensures accountability and transparency into the Defense Department’s spending. With the enormous budget of $738 billion and the inability to pass an audit, limiting the insight into the Pentagon’s financial projections will harm the American taxpayer and their elected representative’s ability to hold the Department accountable for their spending and any deviations. WAND urges the House Armed Services Committee to reject this proposal in the upcoming FY 2021 National Defense Authorization Act in order to preserve the necessary transparency into the Pentagon’s financial projections and ensure the accountability of the Defense Department to Congress and the American people.
