WAND advocates to reduce US reliance on nuclear weapons and limit nuclear weapons program spending


The Trump administration’s FY 2021 budget requests 25 percent above the FY 2020 appropriation for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This unexpected and unnecessary increase makes the United States less safe and takes money away from other programs that will ensure the wellbeing of the American people more than destructive weapons. The trend of increasing funding for nuclear weapons is concerning given the examples of significant cost and timeline overruns in the NNSA’s history. WAND urges Congress to support a more sustainable and affordable path forward by eliminating spending on unnecessary additional weapons and limiting, rather than increasing, funding for nuclear weapons programs.
