The Catholic Church should use their influence to urge President Biden to protect at-risk Afghans

On August 24, WAND joined with nearly 50 other organizations and civil society signatories to ask that Archbishop Christophe Pierre urge President Biden to use all possible means to save the lives of at-risk Afghans.

As an organization committed to peace and justice, we are deeply concerned by the lack of coordination and action in the face of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan, especially women and children, are in grave danger and face an impending and dramatic loss of basic human rights, loss of dignity, and, for many, possible death.

The Catholic Church has an opportunity to "underscore the obligation of President Biden and leaders of the most powerful and wealthy countries around the world. It is a duty to protect the vulnerable and to take action immediately in Afghanistan towards these ends."
