Women’s Action for New Directions (WAND) seeks an intern to work in our Washington, DC office for 6-8 weeks in May-July. Start and end dates are flexible. If you or someone you know is interested in the position, please submit applications by April 19, 2018.


About the Organization:

Women’s Action for New Directions is a national nonprofit organization that seeks to empower women to act politically to reduce violence and militarism and to redirect excessive Pentagon resources toward unmet human and environmental needs.


WAND operates two nonprofit organizations with one united vision. WAND Education Fund is a 501c3 organization that educates Congress, state legislators, and the public on progressive national security issues. WAND Inc. is a 501c4 organization that engages the grassroots in the political process to advocate for national security policy change. The Women Legislators' Lobby (WiLL), a program of WAND, is a national nonpartisan network of women state legislators who work together to influence federal policy and budget priorities



The intern will be supporting Women Legislators' Lobby (WiLL) and Women's Action for New Directions (WAND) programmatic work on nuclear weapons policy, defense legislation, as well as other administrative tasks. WAND Internship experiences are designed to meet the organization's needs at the time while lifting up the strengths of each individual.


Tasks may include any of the following:

  • Support the Policy Director on extensive research projects

  • Support the WiLL program with researching and drafting articles

  • Drafting blog posts

  • Crafting social media content

  • Database maintenance

  • Other projects as assigned



Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong research and writing skills

  • Ability to work independently and show initiative

  • Familiarity with social media

  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suite

  • Video editing and other media skills a plus

  • NGP knowledge, experience not necessary but preferred

  • Interest in women’s political leadership, security and defense issues, peace advocacy, politics, and the legislative process
